On morning of Friday 9th November 2007 it was predicted that a Tidal Surge, caused by storms in the northern North Sea, would arrive at Great Yarmouth and Gorleston to coincide with an exceptionally high tide.
Residents of the riverside areas were advised to evacuate their homes before the predicted high water at approximately 07:45 a.m.
Fortunately the water which was predicted to be 18 feet above normal never topped the river wall although it was touch and go.
Despite the exceptionally high waters there was no erosion of the sand on Gorleston beach and consequently no danger to the Sea Wall.
