Gorleston Coastal Protection

Minutes of Meetings held with GYBC

Great Yarmouth Borough Council have held meetings with Gorleston residents to discuss the coastal protection measures they are planning for the seafront at Gorleston. They have published minutes of these meetings which can be accessed below

Gorleston Library Meeting
This was a lively meeting attended by Great Yarmouth Borough Councillors, GYBC Officers, Halcrow (GYBC Coastal Protection Consultants) and over 200 hundred residents of Gorleston. There was a wide ranging expression of view which are represented by these minutes.

Residents Forum
The concensus of public opinion at the Gorleston Library Meeting was that the 'Reefs' proposal was unacceptable. As a result of this the GYBC and its representatives agreed to meet with a group of local residents with expertise in Coastal Protection to discuss alternative options. The result of this meeting is contained within these minutes.

St Andrews Hall meeting
This meeting was convened to discuss the conclusions reached at the "Residents Forum". The meeting was not so well attended as the meeting at the Library in September last year. However their was a lively debate and it was decided that the Coucil would meet with residents again to iron out a few remaining differences. The plan to carry out repairs to the sea wall allied with a beach monitoring programme seemed acceptable to most of those attending.
